Using Duskeep

How does Duskeep work?

Tap record and talk about your day, however it comes out. Duskeep transcribes what you said, checks names and accents against the recording, and writes it up as a page in your own voice, with the mood of the day and the threads that mattered.

What are moments?

Moments are short recordings you add as the day goes on: what you're in the middle of, who you just talked to, how the evening went. They show up on Home as today's moments, each with its time and a line of what you said. In the evening Duskeep writes them into one page for the whole day. Open a page to see and play the moments under it.

How do the prompts work, and how do I change them?

Duskeep can send up to three short prompts a day, in the late morning, afternoon and evening. Over time it learns when you usually record and moves prompts toward those times. It skips a prompt if you recorded recently, and backs off if prompts are ignored.

To change how often they come, the evening time, or which days, go to Settings → Moment prompts. Choose Evening only for a single prompt a day. If prompts never arrive, check that notifications for Duskeep are on in the iPhone Settings app.

The page missed something. Can I fix it?

Yes. Every page is editable: tap the pencil on a page to change any word. Or tap Write it again and ask for a fuller or shorter version, or tell it what it left out.

What happens if I record without a connection?

Your recording is saved on your phone, and Duskeep writes the page when you're back online. If a page doesn't go through, you'll see why on that day, with a button to try again.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start recording without one. Signing in with Apple or Google backs up your pages to your account, so you can bring them to a new phone with your recovery code.

Duskeep+

What's free, and what does Duskeep+ add?

Recording your day is free, always, with no limit on how many days you keep. Free recordings can be up to 5 minutes long.

Duskeep+ adds recordings up to 15 minutes, the day's photos woven into the page, a chapter every week and every month, a year-in-review booklet, time capsules that lock a day until a date you choose, and keeps every recording for good. It costs $39.99 a year or $4.99 a month in the US; the App Store shows the price for your region.

How do I cancel or restore Duskeep+?

Duskeep+ is billed through your Apple ID. Cancel anytime in Settings → Duskeep+ → Manage or cancel subscription in the app, or in the iPhone Settings app under your name → Subscriptions. You keep Duskeep+ until the end of the period you've paid for, and your pages stay yours either way.

New phone or reinstalled? Use Restore purchases in Settings.

Your data

What is the recovery code, and why does it matter?

Your pages are encrypted to a key that only your phone holds, so we can't read them, and we can't recover them for you either. The recovery code is the only way back into your journal from a new phone.

Find it in Settings → Account → Your recovery code and save it somewhere safe, like a password manager. On a new phone, use Settings → Account → Restore from a recovery code. Anyone who has the code can read your journal, so keep it private.

How do I delete a page, or everything?

To delete one day, open it and delete it. It's removed from your phone and from your account.

To delete every page and recording, go to Settings → Account → Erase my journal. If you're signed in, this erases your journal here and in your account.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, its backups, and the journal on this phone. It can't be undone. If you have Duskeep+, cancel the subscription in your App Store settings too, since deleting the account doesn't stop Apple billing.

Can I export my journal?

Yes. Settings → Export journal (Markdown) saves every page as plain text you can keep anywhere.

Is my journal used to train AI?

No. Your recordings and pages are used to write your pages and nothing else. The privacy policy explains exactly who processes your recording, for how long, and how it's protected.
